Memorial Hall Project and Renovation Updates

We are less than two months away from our Grand Opening on October 18 at Memorial Hall in Fairmount Park! Our construction crew is making big strides in returning this Philadelphia landmark back to its original glory just in time for us to move in and open our doors to generations of children to come.

Inside the Hall, all scaffolding has been fully removed, and final work is currently being done on the marble floors in the Great Hall and the South Foyer, where all painting was completed in June. On the North side of the building, the group entrance is now complete, while the back-of-house office space is nearing completion. Heating and air-conditioning throughout the Hall are now operational, and all public bathrooms have been installed. Exhibits throughout the building are now being installed.

In June, Philadelphia artist Leo Sewell completed work on an incredible 40-foot-tall replica of the Statue of Liberty’s Arm and Torch, created out of toys, games and other playful found objects in the new museum’s Great Hall. The pedestal will be completed by the end of the summer.

Please Touch is currently putting the finishing touches on a new glass and steel Carousel House on the east side of Memorial Hall. The 9,000-square-foot addition will house the Woodside Park Dentzel Carousel that originally operated at Woodside Park, located less than 10 blocks from Memorial Hall. The first batch of carousel animals has been delivered to their new home, and by mid-September, all 52 animals, along with more than 1,200 lights and music will be installed.

Grading work for the outside parking lot is still in progress, while the curb work for the lot, driveways and all sidewalks has been completed.
